    The Countdown

At close to three and a half hours this countdown was a great look back at all the fantastic Raw moments we’ve witnessed over the past 1,000 episodes. This countdown was very accurate in my opinion with only a few moments that are controversial. I think there were too many celebrity appearences counted as moments that shouldn’t be there but overall this is a great countdown that most WWE fans will enjoy and agree with; superstars from past and present tell their stories about these moments. We are given an extra six moments as extras on disk one.

    Raw 1000

We get an awesome look back at the best of the past 999 episodes before Vince McMahon himself comes out and welcomes us to the 1000th episode of Raw and introduces DX! Michael Cole and The King talk us through some of memorable moments DX have given us in the past. Shawn Michaels immediately starts saying that something is missing, after a bit of banter Triple H asks “Didn’t there used to be…more of us?” to a huge pop from the crowd! Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and X-Pac come out in the tank to another huge pop. DX do their usual hilarious intro of themselves until they are interrupted by Damien Sandow. Sandow quickly gets disposed of with a Sweet Chin Music and a Pedigree.

Cole and King hype The Rock’s return tonight, if Brock Lesnar will accept Triple H’s SummerSlam challenge, Daniel Bryan and AJ’s wedding and the CM Punk vs. John Cena WWE Championship match. Jim Ross is introduced to join the commentary table.

Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara & Sheamus vs. Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler & Alberto Del Rio – We get a look back at Rey Mysterio’s return last week and Chris Jericho hitting the Codebreaker on Ziggler last week. This was quite an enjoyable tag team match but wasn’t given a lot of time at all. I think this match could have been really good if given the time. Sheamus gets the win over Jericho when Ziggler punches Jericho followed by a Brogue Kick.

Another hype for The Rock’s return then a “Did you know?” graphic; when Raw debuted in 1993 stamps cost 29 cents and a gallon of gas cost $1.11. We get some cheesy Touts about Daniel Bryan and AJ’s wedding. Cole and King have a quick Skype conversation with Charlie Sheen. We have a look back of Bryan proposing to AJ last week. AJ is seen backstage talking about her marriage to Layla, AJ opens to door to “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, R-Truth and Roddy Piper playing jump rope with Little Jimmy and Mae Young’s grown up son…the hand!

Jack Swagger vs. Brodus Clay – Brodus Clay makes his entrance and announces Dude Love will be in his corner! Clay takes out Swagger in less than twenty seconds and dances away with Dude Love. Dude hits the Mandible Claw on Swagger and continues dancing!

We go backstage to Triple H and Trish Stratus with Trish teaching Triple H how to do yoga, reminiscent of Triple H trying to teach Trish how to wrestle years ago. Another hype for the WWE Championship match.

The ring is set up for the wedding next, Slick is revealed as as the reverand of this ceremony! Bryan and AJ make their entrance and the ceremony begins. Slick rambles on a bit before AJ gestures for him to hurry up. Daniel Bryan says yes to his wedding vows and AJ says yes too…but announces that she wasn’t saying yes to marrying Daniel, she was saying yes to someone else. Vince’s music hits and he announces that he asked AJ to become the new Raw General Manager and she has accepted! Daniel Bryan starts screaming at the referees until CM Punk’s music hits! CM Punk comes out and rubs it in Bryan’s face, Bryan says he is the greatest superstar of all time until The Rock’s music hits! The Rock berates Bryan then announces he will face the WWE Champion at the Royal Rumble, CM Punk tells him it will be him and he will beat The Rock. Bryan interrupts both of them and tells him he will be WWE Champion. The Rock talks a bit more before hitting Bryan with a Rock Bottom!

We get more hype for Lesnar’s decision and the WWE Championship match. Bret Hart comes out to be the special guest ring announcer for the next match.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Christian vs. The Miz – Not a very good match when looking at the superstars involved, this could have been a lot better. Christian was selling a knee injury the whole way through the match. Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale to win the Intercontintal Championship.

Another bit of talk with Charlie Sheen and more hype for the WWE Championship. Triple H comes out for Lesnar’s answer to his SummerSlam challenge. We get a look back from three months ago when Brock Lesnar broke Triple H’s arm. Lesnar’s music hits but it’s Paul Heyman that comes out. Heyman tells Triple H his answer is no, Triple H said he’s gunna go back and get Lesnar himself, Heyman threatens H with a lawsuit if he does. Heyman starts making comments about Triple H’s children until Stephanie McMahon’s music hits. Stephanie mocks Lesnar and Heyman and slaps Heyman. Heyman gets angry and says the match is on! Stephanie attacks Heyman until Lesnar’s music hits! Lesnar and Triple H fight until Triple H knocks Lesnar out of the ring.

We see a few more cheesy Touts, Cole and King advertise WWE 13. We get a look back at the Austin/McMahon feud. Santino Marella and Hornswoggle come out and give away some “Brawlin’ Buddies” toys. Cheesy and pointless. Howard Finkel is introduced as the guest ring announcer for the next match. Heath Slater comes out and runs his mouth, he challenges a legend to come out to a No DQ match and Lita makes her entrance!

Heath Slater vs. Lita – Lita announces she has hired herself some protection, The APA! Slater tries to escape but gets chased back to the ring by all the legends, a Twist of Fate, Clothesline from Hell (excellently sold by the way) and a moonsault later and it’s over! All the legends gather in the ring with Simmons shouting “Damn!”. Cool moment.

A quick look back of Vince announcing AJ as the new General Manager and Bryan getting a Rock Bottom. Sean Mooney interviews Daniel Bryan, Bryan has a few choice words for Charlie Sheen. We get a look at the 100,000,000th Social Media follower of WWE and his name his Alex Guerrero Jr. I Wonder if he’s any relation to the Guerrero family, hmm. Fozzie Bear from The Muppets introduces the great Raw catchphrases from the past. Backstage segment with Cena and The Rock.

Kane comes out and is interrupted by the JOB Squad…I mean Hawkins, Reks, Jinder, Drew, Hunico and Camacho. Just as they are about to attack Kane, Undertaker’s music hits! Taker comes and cleans house with Kane. Very cool moment! We get a BA Star advert and yet another hype for the WWE Championship match (God, I’m sick of saying that.) We get another talk with Charlie Sheen, Charlie seems to challenge Daniel Bryan to a match. We get a look back at Cena challenging Punk to the WWE Championship match.

WWE Championship Match: CM Punk vs. John Cena – This was a pretty poor match when compared to the classics that these two have put on before but I guess this was only used for storyline development. Probably the worst Money in the Bank cash in ever. Big Show comes out and knocks out Cena while the ref is down. Punk tried to cover Cena but only got a two count. Cena locks in the STF but is attacked by Big Show for the DQ finish. The Rock comes out and attacks Big Show, just as Rock is about to hit The People’s Elbow Punk comes in with a clothesline and a GTS. A surprising heel turn to close Raw 1000.

Overall a very excellent show and one of the best Raws I have seen in recent memory. So many good moments and returns in this show, if you watch one Raw from 2012 this should be it. An excellent show that you will enjoy from start to finish.
    Extra:

The Making of Raw 1000: – A nice behind the scenes look at how Raw 1000 was produced, nothing huge but a nice touch.

    Blu-Ray exclusive extra:

Legends Roundtable: The History of Raw: – I’ve got to say I was looking forward to this near two hour discussion but after watching it I can’t say I really enjoyed it. It was led by: “Mean” Gene, Michael Hayes, Road Dogg, Pat Patterson and Jim Ross. Firstly it kept getting interrupted by random Raw moments, although it’s nice to see the moments we’ve saw them all on the countdown already. It also halts the discussion and it’s hard to get back into the discussion after these moments. As much as I love JR he seems to dominate this discussion a whole lot and we don’t hear as much from Patterson and “Mean” Gene as we should. Some nice discussion in parts but not half as good as I was expecting and how it should have been.
    Verdict:
Overall this Blu-Ray is an excellent purchase and comes fully recommended from me. The countdown itself is thoroughly enjoyable to watch all the classic Raw moments and with Raw 1000 on the same set you can not go wrong at all, I would argue that Raw 1000 deserved it’s own Blu-Ray anyway but with it on this set it’s practically a steal! Raw 1000 was better than at least half of the 2012 PPVs and is an excellent show. The legends roundtable was disappointing from my perspective but some people may enjoy it. Fantastic set! Pick it up!

The latest controversial countdown list from WWE.

This is the first WWE DVD I have watched from Freemantle media and I am thoroughly impressed. The Blu-ray comes in a full size case (unlike those annoying slim cases that the previous licensee used).

I thought the documentary itself was really enjoyable. It covered the entire 20 years of Raw, from the first show in 1993, all the way to more recent events such as the return of the Rock and CM Punk’s pipe bomb. The only obvious omission is The Rabid Wolverine Chris Benoit but in all honesty I don’t think he’ll be appearing on WWE DVDs anytime soon.

The first disc also contains a number of events that didn’t make it on the top 100 list but are still very entertaining.

The second disc contains the entire Raw 1000 show – it was nice to watch again and worth keeping for nostalgia purposes.

As with every countdown list, there will be people who don’t completely agree with the order of the list. For example, I thought number 1 was a great moment but don’t think it was the best moment in Raw history. So either take this list with a pinch of salt or think of it as the top 100 Raw events in no particular order.

Wow! I received my order, 4 days before it was due to be released & I have to say that WWEDVD’s posting is perfect!

Now to the actual Blu-Ray! After viewing the 1st Disc… It’s a Perfect Blu-Ray print, although I have to say that I didn’t really enjoy a lot of the Top 100 Moments, although there were quite a few that I had wanted to watch and one’s that I had never seen, so this set will be staying in my WWE Collection!
